Tenue x Cone Denim Collection Part Deux

Amsterdam-based denim brand Tenue has just launched its second special limited-edition capsule made exclusively from fabric by Elevate Textile’s Cone Denim Mills.
The three-piece unisex offering consists of some of the brand’s favorite workwear pieces from the U.S. and Japan: an American chore jacket called Clint, a kimono-inspired top named River and the Penn Sacramento, a pair of vintage-style jeans.
The trio of items follows on the heels of last year’s limited batch of handcrafted Tenue kimonos created from three rolls of deadstock denim from Cone’s now-shuttered famous White Oak facility in Greensboro, N.C. Tenue founder Menno van Meurs described it as “a friendship project” that was created with the help of Kara Nicholas, the former VP of marketing at Cone (now VP of marketing at Elevate Textiles), to honor the closing of Cone’s final and famed domestic production facility on U.S. soil.
Instead of deadstock, the new Tenue x Cone assortment spotlights a fabric that the mill currently produces–a 100 percent organic, natural indigo-dyed denim. “The objective of the current capsule was to show the world Cone is still there,” van Meurs told Rivet. “We wanted to bridge denim history and its present to explore a bright blue future together.”
The pieces were designed by van Meurs together with Tenue’s head of design Michelle Don. “All items are tailored to contemporary and future needs, but also built on the principle of supreme quality that will last a lifetime,” adds the brand founder. The garments were produced in Italy and treated in a low-impact process that uses less water and chemicals than a traditional one. This, combined with the capsule’s timeless aesthetic, make for the brand’s “most sustainable denim yet,” according to Tenue.
The collection, which is sold on Tenue’s website and at selected retailers, is limited to 300 pieces of the jean, 120 pieces of the jacket and 120 pieces of the top. The collection retails for 220-290 euros, which under the current exchange rate, is equivalent to U.S. dollars.
Next up for Tenue? The opening of its first physical monobrand store in Amsterdam later this month.
